My heart has grown cold
Being busy at work, losing hope with some of the things I’m working on, toxic politics, and the proliferation of fake news and trolling on social media took their toll on me. I realized that my heart has grown cold. On most days, I had been feeling hurt, angry, hateful, discouraged, and hopeless.
That’s why yesterday’s Gospel reading struck me:
“… because of the increase of evildoing, the love of many will grow cold.”
Matthew 24:12 NAB
It’s not just my heart that has grown cold. My dreams have also died and I’m just sleep-walking through life. I blurted out to my wife recently, “I have become the person I don’t want to become.”
I’m glad to have finally taken a break. I spent some time during the last three days reflecting, praying, and recalibrating. I also spent some time resting. And as I took a breather, it was as if God also breathed some life into my dreams, my love, my joy, and my hope.
Today, we remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. But I guess, somehow, my dreams, my hope, my joy, and my love have also been resurrected. God is faithful.
How about you?
Has your heart grown cold? Is love no longer burning within you?
Do you have dead, forgotten dreams?
Do you feel like you’re sleep-walking through life?
Do you feel hopeless?
Father, thank You for the hope of the resurrection. Our story does not end in death and defeat, but victory and everlasting life. While here on earth, may You also resurrect our dreams, our hopes, our joy, and our love. May Your love burn in our hearts that have grown cold. And as our hearts burn, may we move towards Your healing.
P.S. Election time in our country is a circus. It can also bring out the worst in us. I know it brought out the worst in me.
